About the Smart Export Guarantee
The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) requires licensed electricity suppliers with 150,000+ customers to offer a tariff for exported solar electricity. Unlike the old Feed-in Tariff, there's no minimum rate — suppliers set their own prices, which is why comparing rates matters.
🔌 Who Can Get SEG?
Anyone with solar panels up to 5MW, a smart meter (or export meter), and MCS-certified installation. Your system must be registered with your chosen SEG supplier.
💡 Can I Switch Suppliers?
Yes! Your SEG supplier doesn't have to be your electricity supplier. You can shop around for the best export rate independently of who you buy electricity from.
📊 Fixed vs Variable vs Agile
Fixed rates are guaranteed for a period. Variable rates can change. Agile rates fluctuate with wholesale prices — potentially higher but unpredictable.
⚡ Maximise Your Earnings
Export more by adding battery storage to shift excess to peak export times. Some agile tariffs pay premium rates during evening peak demand.
