NRG Energy Inc. recently announced that it has purchased Pure Energies Group Inc, a home rooftop solar installation company that specializes in Internet sales.
NRG Energy’s decision in purchasing Pure Energies will help strengthen itself as a “One Stop Spot” for solar systems as it continues to gain traction in the US solar market. Earlier this year, NRG also bought Roof Diagnostics, which focused on direct solar sales, and merged that with its own NRG Residential Solution to form NRG Home Solar.

As a Fortune 250 company, NRG Energy is looking towards younger customers as an upcoming market. Generation Y consumers are known to look for companies that promote sustainable development as well as companies that are tech savvy. This recent deal highlights the best of both worlds for NRG Energy.
“Home solar is the gateway for most American consumers to join the growing movement toward a clean energy future, and the combination of Pure Energies’ rapid growing online footprint with our existing residential solar platform will enhance our ability to provide customers, wherever they are, the freedom to make their own clean energy and capitalize on the energy generating potential of their own home,” said NRG Energy President and CEO David Crane.
“While residential solar is being increasingly embraced by homeowners of all ages across the United States, buying over the internet is the acquisition channel of choice in particular for the younger generation of Americans for whom commitment to a sustainable lifestyle is a fundamental part of their DNA,” Crane Said.
Meanwhile, Zibigniew Barwicz, CEO of Pure Energies, said that joining NRG Home Solar will allow them to support more US homeowners who are looking for solar energy and home conservation products.
NRG Home Solar still has a long way to go to become the #1 home solar installer (if that could ever happen). That honor is currently held by SolarCity, according to the 2014 1st quarter US home residential market installer report from GTM Research. However, the report also found NRG Home Solar’s market share has grown considerably on a year-over-year basis.
