A major manufacturing company is planning a large-scale renewable energy investment at its Bradford site, with proposals to install more than 3,500 solar panels on the roof of its warehouse.
US-based automotive supplier BorgWarner, which operates its Turbo Systems Division on the Euroway Industrial Estate, has submitted a planning application to Bradford Council for the development. The factory currently employs around 400 people and is a significant employer in the area.
The plans outline the installation of a substantial rooftop solar array comprising 3,516 photovoltaic panels. If approved, the system would generate clean, renewable electricity to help power the site’s operations.
According to the planning application, the development is intended to support the company’s sustainability objectives while reducing its dependence on electricity from the national grid.
“The installation will generate clean, renewable energy, contributing to the site’s sustainability goals and reducing reliance on grid electricity,” the application states.
The documents also address the visual and environmental impact of the scheme. The panels would feature a uniform black finish designed to blend in with the industrial appearance of the building.
“The panels have a sleek, uniform black finish that complements the industrial aesthetic of the factory building,” the application adds.
It also highlights measures taken to minimise glare, noting that anti-reflective glass coatings would be used to ensure the development does not cause issues for nearby homes, roads, or aircraft.
“The anti-reflective glass coating significantly reduces glare, making the installation suitable for proximity to residential areas, public roads, and aviation zones,” the submission says.
A decision on the planning application is expected to be made by Bradford Council in March.
