E.ON Solar announced Wednesday the beginning of construction on the 20 MW Maricopa West solar project in California.
Located in Kern County, California, the 20 MW project will consist of 89,000 PV panels mounted on a single-axis tracking system, and is estimated to begin full operation sometime later this year.
“The start of construction of the Maricopa West project is the result of the shared vision and hard work of E.ON’s Solar team, which has established a track-record of engineering best-in-class solar sites in California and other favorable markets,” said Steve Trenholm, CEO of E.ON Solar. “We are pleased to work with Signal Energy Constructors to build Maricopa West. This project will create 160 jobs for iron workers, electricians, laborers and other trades while boosting the local economy.”
“Our solar parks in California and Arizona have created a total of more than 400 construction jobs to date. As we expand our footprint in the state, E.ON Solar will continue to create additional job opportunities,” Trenholm added. “This is an exciting time at E.ON Solar, as we continue to build projects that do not use water in the production of solar electricity, while helping to address America’s energy resource and security needs.”
